Punta Cana: What Does This Island Paradise Have To Offer?

Girl on beach in Punta CanaPunta Cana is known worldwide for it’s pristine white sandy beaches and luxurious atmosphere.

When people talk about taking a vacation to an island paradise in the Dominican Republic, they are inadvertently referring to Punta Cana.

While the beaches are the prime attraction when vacationing in Punta Cana, there are a wide variety of other amenities and attractions available.

There are so many attractions in Punta Cana:  boat tours, snorkeling, natural attractions, shopping, dining, nightclubs, casinos, surfing, scuba diving, golf and off road tours.

The only limit to your fun is really only your imagination and budget.

Bavaro Beach
Bavaro Beach stretches north from the easternmost tip of Punta Cana. It is one of the top ten most picturesque beaches in the world and one look at the crystal clear waters and soft, white sand beaches and you’ll know that their place in the top ten is well deserved.

Along with the pristine beaches, Bavaro is also a great destination for snorkeling in the waters of the offshore reef. Home to many different breeds of tropical fish, the bavaro reef is a one of a kind experience for anyone.

Aside from snorkeling, there are also a variety of other activities to participate in while enjoying the scenery of the 3km long beach. For those of you who are more adventurous, you can take private kitesurfing lessons or take in the scenery while speeding along the coast on a jet boat tour.

Macao Beach
For those of you looking for a different water themed challenge, head over to Macao Beach and take a surfing lesson. You can book a private or semi-private lesson and enjoy the sport of surfing on the gentle and forgiving waves of Macao Beach.

For anyone out there who is already comfortable riding the waves, you can enjoy the more advanced waves at the famous Point Chepes pointbreak. Or, if you’d prefer a more relaxed ocean experience, you can take in the scenery from the bow of a kayak or stand up paddleboard.

Isla Catalina (Catalina Island)
For any of you out there who think that no tropical vacation is incomplete without exploring the underwater attractions, then you’ll enjoy scuba diving at Isla Catalina. With attractions like “The Wall” which boasts depths from 5 meters to upwards of beyond 40 meters, there is a scuba diving experience out there from the novice to experienced divers.

Another popular Isla Catalina dive site is called “The Aquarium.” It is everything you would expect from an aquarium. You will be immersed into a world of tropical fish and other marine life attractions like eels and rays.

Outdoor Adventure Activities
While many guests will spend the majority of their time enjoying the beaches and clear water that Punta Cana has to offer, there are a wide variety of other activities that might pique your interest.

With so many miles of uncrowded wilderness in Punta Cana, one activity that has become increasingly more popular are dune buggy tours. You’ll speed along the countryside and through the multitude of banana plantations behind the wheel of a dune buggy.

Another attraction that has become more popular as well is zip line tours. Punta Cana is home to many miles of tropical forest and what better way to take in all this scenery than gliding effortlessly atop the forest canopy suspended by a zipline?

For those of you who would rather take in the sites from the air, Punta Cana has a wide variety of air themed tours. Take a romantic hot air balloon ride at sunrise above the scenic beaches of Punta Cana while sipping champagne.

For those of you who want to see more of the area, you can take to the air in a helicopter or airplane. This is an excellent way to take in all the beauty that the area has to offer.

Fun Fun Cave
This is one of the most unique and talked about attractions in Punta Cana. The Fun Fun Cave is part of the Los Haitises National Park and boasts a wide variety of underground tunnels for you to explore. The tunnels stretch down 65 feet beneath the surface and there are numerous attractions to explore once you are in the tunnels.

Within the tunnels you can see ancient cave paintings, stalactites and stalagmites, not to mention the opportunity on some tours to repel down to the base of the cave.

Golf
Punta Cana is home to some of the greatest golf courses in the Dominican if not the entire Caribbean. Many of these courses have been built by world renowned golf course builders and have been patronized by professional golfers, presidents and other influential people. With courses designed by such prolific builders, you are guaranteed a world class golfing experience.

Shopping and Nightlife
What vacation would be complete without some world class shopping and adventurous nightlife amenities? The Palma Real Shopping Centre is home to 40 plus stores all catering to the various wants and needs of Punta Cana travelers.

Along with the various shopping available, Punta Cana is also home to a wide variety of nightclubs, bars and lounges and casinos. From dance clubs to cigar and hookah lounges, there is plenty of nightlife to keep you busy.

Punta Cana is probably the most widely patronized area in the Dominican Republic. There’s a reason why so many people flock to the area.
