9 Libido Boosting Foods You Should Be Eating (and a Few to Avoid)

We’re sure that you’re a romantic and sexual dynamo. All you need is some soft music, a little mood lighting and you are ready, willing and able for a night of unbridled passion. However, much like everything else in life, it’s never a bad idea to make sure you are ready to perform your best.

A while back, we did an article on superfoods that would boost your libido. Those six foods: strawberries, avocado, pomegranate, nuts, eggs and bananas, should be part of your weekly intake.

The good news is that there are more than just six foods that can be used to boost your libido and your levels of testosterone. There are also some foods (and other activities) that you should avoid because they are libido killers.

Along with these foods, it’s equally important to try your best to live a healthy lifestyle as well. We’re not telling you to fundamentally change who you are but there’s evidence that suggests a healthy lifestyle is great for your life and, the added bonus, your sexlife.

To Eat:

9. Salmon
Salmon is a fatty fish loaded with Omega-3 acids that are great for your heart health. There’s another benefit to eating salmon that goes beyond the heart. Omega-3 is also great for raising dopamine levels in the brain which improves circulation and blood flow, two key components in maintaining arousal.

8. Ginger
Ginger is a food that is great for aiding blood flow and improving the overall health of your arteries as well. Much like the benefits with salmon, the improved blood flow is a great way to increase your libido. The good news is that it doesn’t take too much, a teaspoon a few times a week is enough to suffice.

7. Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate is high in antioxidants and increases your dopamine and serotonin levels in your brain. Both these chemicals are considered mood boosters which help increase one’s desire for sexual contact.

There’s a reason why the Latin cultures are so passionate. It’s partly because of their diet, which includes a wide variety of hot peppers and spices. Hot peppers are great at increasing your metabolism and increase your endorphin levels. They are also helpful for increasing the heart rate and getting blood where it needs to be, which leads to some pretty mind blowing finishes.

This leafy green is more than just a great addition to your daily salad, it’s also very high in magnesium which helps combat inflammation in your blood vessels. For the uninformed, this means that when your blood flows more freely, it provides are greater blood supply to your extremities. Your hands and feet aren’t the only protruding extremities that will benefit from an increase in circulation.

Flavonoids are antioxidants that are great for your immune system and are often used in diets to help in treatment with cancer patients. An added benefit of eating these little blue wonders is that they have been shown to combat erectile disfunction in men. Anything that good should be a dietary staple.

Oats are very high in l-arginine, which is an amino acid commonly used to help treat patients with erectile disfunction. Whole grains have long been known to lower cholesterol levels, which is directly beneficial to your overall blood flow. The arteries that surround your genitals are smaller and, therefore, more susceptible to clots. Oatmeal helps to lower that bad cholesterol and improves your blood flow. Add a couple bowls of oatmeal to your breakfast routine.

Much like bananas, potatoes, especially sweet potatoes, are very high in potassium which helps prevent high blood pressure, a key component to fighting erectile dysfunction. They are also very high in beta-carotene which is a great source of vitamin A, which is helpful for infertility.

You should avoid drinking too much soda anyway, but if you do like the occasional sweet drink make sure you stay away from diet sodas. Diet soda is high in aspartame which negatively affects your serotonin, a hormone directly linked to your mental health and well-being. Low serotonin equals a low libido.

If you ever needed a great reason to quit smoking, we have one for you. Smoking is one of the biggest contributors to erectile dysfunction. It constricts blood vessels and lowers testosterone levels. In addition, smoking lowers your sexual desire and overall sexual performance.

These are some of the foods you should enjoy and a few things you should avoid and/or just cut out completely from your life. A healthy sex drive is much more enjoyable than almost anything else, so make sure you are taking care of yourself so you can enjoy the health benefits of an active sex life.
