We understand that, for many of you, that great game of golf can be the springboard into a vacation of a lifetime. Lucky for you, the Caribbean boasts some of the most picturesque golf courses in the world and the Punta Cana area is host to the best in the DR. Below, we have a list of the top three golf courses within easy reach of Senses Private Club.
1. Teeth of the Dog
Not far from Senses Private Club, this 7,471 yard 18 hole course is the gem of the Caribbean. Built by Pete Dye and ranked by Golf Magazine as 43rd of the top 100 courses in the world, this course will leave you awestruck by the spectacular views. It is considered the number 1 course in the Caribbean.
Constructed almost completely by hand with pickaxes and sledgehammers, the Dominican workers created an absolute masterpiece. Seven of the course’s 18 holes border the Caribbean Sea. The proximity to the ocean and the warm trade winds make these holes extra challenging because of the ever shifting winds.
Fees will run you about $254 US per person per round and booking tee times in advance is essential. All fees do not include an additional 18% in tax. All fees include: greens fee, range balls and shared cart. Caddies (mandatory at Teeth of the Dog) will run $25 per caddie for 1 or 2 players and $40 per caddie for 3 or 4 players.
2. Dye Fore
This is the newest of all the courses, also built by Pete Dye, and also one of the most unique in the area. The course is very large and wide open. Punctuated by wide fairways and huge bunkers, you will be challenged every step of your game here.
With 27 total holes, finding a challenge on your round will be as easy as finding a welcoming retreat waiting for you upon your return to Senses. Seven of the holes on this fun and challenging course drop a massive 300 feet to the Chavon River below. This course is known for some of the most breathtaking views in the Caribbean. From the Caribbean Sea to the Dominican mountains, you’ll bask in the visual enormity of this great course.
Fees will run you about $195 US per person per round and booking tee times in advance is essential. All fees do not include an additional 18% in tax. All fees include: greens fee, range balls and shared cart. Caddies are not mandatory at Dye Fore like at Teeth of the Dog; however, if you choose a caddy, the prices are the same as Teeth of the Dog.
3. Links
A third course built by Pete Dye, The Links might not be as picturesque as its neighbors but it is deceptively challenging. Most golfers who have had the luxury of playing the course agree that The Links is as equally challenging of a course as the Teeth of the Dog.
What makes the Links so challenging is the moderately hilly terrain and tall grass roughs.
Many golfers feel that The Links is a bit of a homage to traditional British and Scottish courses. There are plenty of obstacles to challenge every level golfer at this inland course. Several lagoons and lakes with wading birds will add an inviting challenge to the typical water obstacle.
Fees will run you about $175 US per person per round plus the 18% tax and, much like the other two courses, booking tee times in advance is essential. All fees include: greens fee, range balls and shared cart. Similar to Dye Fore, caddies are not mandatory but available for the same pricing as listed above.
